"On behalf of the faculty and staff of Gilles-Sweet Elementary School, it is our pleasure to recognize and honor Mrs. Kathleen Shaffer as our May Shining Star Staff recipient.

Mrs. Shaffer's contributions to our school community are immeasurable. Her pivotal role in the planning and execution of the Derby Dash exemplifies her dedication and passion for enhancing the educational experience of our students. Through her tireless efforts, she has helped create a cherished tradition that brings joy and excitement to our students and families year after year. 

Furthermore, Mrs. Shaffer's unwavering support for every student in our building is nothing short of extraordinary. With boundless compassion and patience, she has a remarkable ability to connect with even the most challenging students, guiding them with understanding and empathy. You are guaranteed to see her and her side kick Jin around the building having deep, creative conversations.  Her role as the "de-escalation whisperer" has diffused countless situations, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all.  

Additionally, Mrs. Shaffer's commitment to supporting teachers with classroom behaviors is invaluable. Her expertise and willingness to lend a helping hand have empowered our staff to effectively manage challenges and create classrooms where every student can thrive.

Mrs. Shaffer's impact reaches far beyond the walls of our school, as she serves as a beacon of expertise and guidance for educators across the district. Her role as a CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) instructor underscores her commitment to the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Through her comprehensive training programs, she equips educators with the necessary tools and strategies to effectively manage difficult situations and disruptive behaviors, with a strong emphasis on prevention and de-escalation.
