Fairview High School honors talented performing arts students at annual awards night

Performing Arts students winning awards

May 17, 2024

Fairview High School performing arts students recently took center stage to celebrate their outstanding contributions throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

At the annual Performing Arts Awards night on Thursday, May 9, a total of 144 students in grades 9-12 were honored in the Frank W. Barr Auditorium. They were recognized for their talent and dedication in Fairview Park City School District band, choir, orchestra and theatre programs.

“The Performing Arts Award Ceremony is to recognize the hard work and growth of the students in the performing arts,” Director of Band Peter Cibulskas said. “We want to show our students, parents, and the community the accomplishments of our students and express our gratitude for their efforts.”

“This event highlights the value we place on the arts, reinforcing the idea that creativity and expression are vital components of a well-rounded education,” Director of Orchestras Hillery Needhan added. “It brings the community together, fostering a sense of pride and unity as we celebrate the achievements of our students.”

At the event, each performing arts student at the high school was recognized. First, those in attendance were called up one at a time as teachers recognized students for their years of service. Then each group announced its officers for the next year. Finally, each performing recognized students for artistic excellence, leadership, and service to their groups with the National Awards.

“We are all extremely proud of our students' accomplishments over the years they have been involved in the program,” Cibulskas expressed. “To see the skills that have been developed and the quality of not just performers, but human beings, helps us as teachers realize the hard work that has been put into the program.”

“The accomplishments of our students over the years fill us with immense pride,” Needham stated. “Watching them grow, develop their skills, and achieve excellence is a testament to their dedication and the support of their teachers and families. Each award and recognition is a milestone that showcases their journey, resilience, and the potential they carry into the future.”
